For crosslab Christian Kalse and me had to get lost in Rotterdam, but not in a normal way but according a system.
We had to make our own system so we would discover other places. During the trip we collected one item: circles. Here some examples.
On Christians iPhone we had two dices, one for the streets (white), one for the direction (red).
White: 1walk one street, 2 walk two streets, 3 walk three streets..
Red: 1&2 go to the left, 3&4 go to the right, 5 go straight on, 6 turn back
The combination of the two dices decided how we walked. For example: we walk 5 streets and then go to the left.
This is the way we walked.
This are a few pictures we collected:
After we made those pictures we had to make "something" according our conclusion for the trip, we made a mindcloud:
We tought in a cycles, that this is a boring grey city building and breaking. Like nature circles (water, air, earth).
After all we decided to make an animation of a city cycles.
Making off
With a "green screen" idea we decided to go ahead, we printed some buildings and teared them a part, numbered them and made a picture of every change, then we manipulated it to an animation in after effects.
The result:
